9 Days To Make A Single Natural Material Handcrafted Elegant Shawl Or Stole – Stage 6

9 Days To Make A Single Natural Material Handcrafted Elegant Shawl Or Stole – Stage 6

STAGE 6 – Use of Environmental Friendly Equipment’s

The sixth stage is to use the largest of these environmentally friendly non-electrical equipment. The Handloom. Using the handloom takes a lot of skills and talent. Imagine the first time you learned how to drive a manual car. Both of your arms and both of your feet were in action. It was a daunting task at start. This is 100 times more challenging. Just take a look at the video of Jigneshbhai using the Handloom below. Obviously, he had a fabulous driving instructor and has many years experience as he is very talented.

The separate strings come together to produce the body of the shawls and stoles. The Handloom operator knows exactly how to switch to different strings throughout the process so the desired pattern is maintained. This is where his talent comes in. At the end of the Handloom operation, we have a perfectly crafted shawl or stole.

STAGE 7 – Final Stage

The final stage is done purely by hand. This is finishing the tassels, embroidery finishing and mirror work stitching. This is a painstakingly long process that has to be done in precision. At first sight, it would be presumed this requires a lot of focus. But, as you can see from video below, the ladies of VE-WE-GE Empowering Rural India, Women Empowerment project happily chat away with each other laughing away (mainly at us dum dum foreigners) and create perfectly finished, soft to feel, beautiful looking handcrafted natural material article not available in the high street shops.

Another major advantage of handcrafted shawls and stoles is that every individual item is unique. Even the most skilled artisans of the final stage would be a millimeter or few away from the last one.

Conclusion

A handcrafted unique item made just for you with lot of love and attention of many artisans. But does it really take nine days from start to finish? Not if it was done by me and, maybe, not by you too. I would raise the white flag after 2 months of not succeeding past first stage. But for these talented artisans, together they produce piece of elegance in 8 to 9 days. And is it worth £50 to £100 for a handcrafted 9 day process piece of luxury? You decide.
